The Camden County Academy of Teaching and Learning

The  Academy of Teaching and Learning is an authentic learning community comprised of a broad spectrum of teachers, administrators and other educational professionals.  We provide a resource for educators to stay current with best instructional practices and at the same time help to shape the future of education. Membership in the Academy is offered at no charge to the educators or their school districts.

Presently, over four hundred fifty members, representing a broad cross-section of professionals from the educational community are involved in the Academy. Members include elementary, middle, and secondary school, special and general education teachers, school administrators, and technology specialists representing  the public, private, and charter school districts in all of Southern New Jersey. The Academy is dedicated to the improvement of education throughout the state of New Jersey. Membership is free to all teachers throughout the state. As a professional development resource, we meet four times per year. Each meeting is packed with activities that improve instruction resulting in greater student achievement. The activities include:

• Effective Lesson plan design

• Roundtable discussions with educational leaders

• Sample “Best Practices Lessons”

• Student designed lessons and discussions

• Workshops on latest educational ideas and innovations

• Engaging activities to improve student performance

• Most importantly fellowship and sharing of professional ideas, triumphs and the best education has to offer!!!

The Academy uses the "Academy Website" http://www.southjerseyacademy.com   - to provide participants with the collaboration tools that directly benefit performance in the classroom.   Using this website teachers and administrators from across South Jersey create, manage, and share documents, plans, schedules, and ideas about effective educational practices. Educators in Camden County  constantly upgrade their instructional practices and plans while building a database of the best of instructional techniques developed throughout the county and the country.  Access to the Internet allows continual collaboration among members. All Academy members and other members of the educational community have access to a constantly growing library of lesson plans, units, rubrics, standards and much more.  These materials can be adopted in their entirety or adapted to meet the needs of the individual student.  The lessons that originate from the Academy will be clearly identified so that other users from around the country will know where the materials were developed.

What the Academy Is

The Camden County Academy of Teaching and Learning is:

• A professional fellowship, by, for, and of educators;
• Dedicated to fostering a continuous conversation of effective teaching practices;
• A mechanism to assist educators adapt to and change the landscape of teaching and learning.

What the Academy is Not

The Camden County Academy of Teaching and Learning is not:

• A physical place;
• Designed to evaluate teacher performance;
• Based upon a hierarchy of experience. b
