Before
the start of school, send a letter to the student and their parent
welcoming them to your class. Include your email address for parents to
contact if they have questions and a brief description of your plans for
the school year. You may also want to include a list of needed
materials.

Make the parent your partner through frequent
personal updates (person to person by phone or face to face conferences
best)

Send home monthly newsletters either by email,
flyer or website link. Include special events, general plan of lessons
and other important information.

When there is a problem or praise earned be
sure to the contact parent that day if possible.

Try to find something positive to notify a
parent about for each student at least once per month. Make parents look
forward to hearing from you!!

Try to plan parent visitation days frequently.
Invite parents to share their expertise with the students and plan a
clear and definite time period for their presentation. Make the time
period (20 - 45 minutes)clear to the visiting parent.

Include parent in all contracts, homework plans
and other necessary discussion with students. Make the parent a
partner - NO finger pointing allowed.
